Today’s message is going to be short & simple. I’ve touched on it before, more than once IN FACT—because it’s crucial for our growth, joy & happiness.

Our brains instinctively & often very automatically will want to tell us all the ways in which we “failed”.

EXAMPLES: 

He didn’t call back, what’s wrong with you?

You’re always going to be alone. Why even try?

You shouldn’t be feeling despair, you have lots of “blessings” to be grateful for.

This job is killing me, I’m all alone, I can’t afford to just quit, I am my only provider.

Why did you say that to your co-worker? What is wrong with you. You’re going to get fired. 

THIS IS NOT YOU. 

THOSE VOICES ARE NOT YOU OR YOUR HIGHEST THINKING SELF.

These are just your survival brain instincts & they only serve us to stay alive. They don’t serve us to create joy, peace, love, compassion & growth.

LET ME OFFER ANOTHER OPTION

When you notice yourself judging yourself…

OR YOU NOTICE YOURSELF NOT KEEPING YOUR HEALTH COMMITMENTS TO YOURSELF..

OR YOUR GOAL COMMITMENTS TO YOURSELF….

OR YOU’RE THINKING EVERYTHING IS WRONG WITH YOU WHEN YOUR DATING OR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS…

OR YOUR BRAIN IS BEATING THE CRAP OUT OF YOU FOR WHATEVER IT MIGHT BE RIGHT NOW…

TAKE A BREATH, take a step back & JUST BE CURIOUS.

ASK YOURSELF KINDLY THESE QUESTIONS INSTEAD:

Why am I doing this?

Why am I saying this?

What am I afraid of?

What if this isn’t personal?

What if nobody’s misbehaving?

What if I just have a human brain?

Why am I not keeping my commitments to myself?

What can I learn from this?

How can I love myself even when I don’t love what I’m doing?

What emotion am I avoiding feeling by putting off my self-care commitments to myself?

How can I do it anyway even if my more primitive brain “doesn’t want to” (imagine a whiny toddler saying that.)

THEN SAY, to yourself: 

HOW FASCINATING! 

HOW INTERESTING! 

HOW CURIOUS. 

JUST LOOK AT THE ANSWERS THAT COME UP.

You don’t have to KNOW THE SOLUTIONS it right now. 

JUST START ASKING DIFFERENT QUESTIONS.

DON’T GO  NUMB OUT WITH WITH A PINT OF HAGEN DAZ

OR GET DEPRESSED SITTING ON THE COUCH

OR GO NUMB OUT ON AMAZON OR FB OR INSTAGRAM

DON’T GO EAT

DON’T GO OVER SPEND

DON’T TELL YOURSELF STORIES THAT YOU ARE WORTHLESS OR UNWORTHY OF LOVE INCLUDING YOUR OWN LOVE OF YOURSELF!

JUST LOOK AT YOUR BRAIN WITH CURIOSITY. KEEP UNRAVELING IT. 

WHAT IF IT’S ALL OK? WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM OBSERVING IT?

It will start to focus your brain on what you really want instead of lamenting on what you don’t have, and will calm the “voices in your head”.
