CRITICAL QUESTION #1 TO ASK YOURSELF TO BREAK THE

CYCLE OF EMOTIONAL OVER EATING

When we are in the throes (or even as we are just starting to throw ourselves in) of emotional eating, rarely do we have the mental bandwidth to stop & ask ourselves some questions, we just want to shove that pizza, brownies, chips etc. down.

I want to share with you CRITICAL question to ask yourself when you are feeling like  LIKE EMOTIONALLY EATING.

QUESTION #1: AM I TRULY PHYSICALLY HUNGRY?

Our brains will often want to yell back at this question, what does physical hunger have to do with it, lady??? I just want to eat, not think. I just want to numb out.

Well, if your brain is telling you something like that, just know that you’re normal & it’s the survival part of your brain talking when it says things like that.

SO: the survival is only concerned about survival—so think twice, do you want to survive, or are you interested in being a better version of you?

If you are interested in being a better, healthier, happier version of you, give yourself the gift of taking a step back, literally taking 2-3 slow deep breaths and ask yourself before you stuff something in your mouth, AM I TRULY PHYSICALLY HUNGRY?

So many of us don’t have a good grasp on what actual physical hunger is. We overeat at the smallest semblance of an uncomfortable emotion & rarely experience true physical hunger.

True physical hunger comes in waves. For most people it’s a grumble in the stomach, it’s been a good 6-7 hours since you ate last during the day. If you drink water, you’re hungry shortly thereafter. (We mistake hunger for thirst quite a bit-side tip: drink ½ your body weight in ounces of H2O a day.)

Babies are so good at this: they eat until they are full, then they push the bottle away. We’ve gotten off kilter since those days, we need to learn to “push the metaphorical milk bottle away” when we are not truly hungry & when we are satisfied.

When we are truly physically hungry, healthier foods often speak to us or seem more enticing-we would eat the veggies because it would fill us up.

When we are emotionally hungry, salt, sugar, & flour are usually the substances that call to us.

BOTTOM LINE WITH THIS TIP IS: IF YOU ARE NOT TRULY PHYSICALLY HUNGRY, DON’T EAT. THE END. YOU MAY BE THINKING EASIER SAID THAN DONE, AND THAT’S TOTALLY OK TO THINK. THAT’S YOUR BRAIN TRYING TO KEEP YOU ALIVE & WE LOVE OUR BRAINS FOR DOING THAT!
