IT’S ESSENTIALLY LETTING THE SURVIVAL PART OF YOUR BRAIN RUN THE SHOW INTO A SPIRAL OF SELF-DEFEATING RESULTS.
THAT PART OF YOUR BRAIN IS ONLY CONCERNED ABOUT SURVIVAL & CREATES LOTS OF TENSION IN YOUR BODY & EMOTIONALLY HIJACKS YOUR ACCESS TO RATIONAL THOUGHT IN THE PRE-FRONTAL CORTEX.
WHEN YOU ARE FEELING TENSION IN YOUR BODY, THAT’S A CLUE THAT THE SURVIVAL BRAIN IS HEADING UP THE SHOW.
This is important to know because:
EMOTIONAL BRAIN DRAMA SUCKS ALL OUR MENTAL & THEN PHYSICAL ENERGY UP…AND EXHAUSTS US.
AND MY FRIENDS, IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY!!
THIS IS WHAT EMOTIONAL BRAIN DRAMA CAN SOUND LIKE:
“I shouldn’t have said that to that person, shoot, they are going to be upset with me.”
Then your brain spends time beating yourself up.
“I feel like I need to go to all these events to support my family or friends but I’d way rather stay home–I’m an introvert, I really need my re-charge time, but I feel so compelled to please others…”
and then your brain beats you up & argues back and forth with itself…
“I ate emotionally last night & I know better & I was just stressed because I had so much on my plate.”
Then your brain spends time & energy arguing with itself and probably beating you up?
“I really want to help my friend or family member, but I’m so tired, it’s so hard to say no.”
Then your brain feels terrible the next day because you are overly exhausted & it may beat you up & tell you that you should’ve gone to bed instead.
This type of emotional brain drama, the arguing with ourselves energy, the beating ourselves up energy is such a time suck. It’s such a life suck. It’s such a spirit suck.
One of my clients recently told me that through the coaching she’s been doing with me & all the changes she’s learning to make in her thinking & emotional processing, she’s starting to realize:
SHE JUST DOESN’T HAVE TIME FOR THE EMOTIONAL BRAIN DRAMA. SHE JUST DOESN’T HAVE TIME FOR THE EXHAUSTION OF THE ARGUMENTS & BEATING HERSELF UP IN HER HEAD ANY MORE.

1. NOTICE WHEN YOU ARE FEELING TENSION IN YOUR BODY (REMEMBER THIS IS THE INDICATOR THAT SURVIVAL BRAIN IS AT PLAY NOT YOUR PRE-FRONTAL CORTEX). STEP 1: JUST NOTICE IT. DON’T JUDGE IT. BE AWARE.
2. TAKE A STEP BACK & BREATHE DEEPLY 3-4 TIMES, SLOWLY. RESET YOUR BRAIN & GIVE IT A CHANCE TO THINK MORE OBJECTIVELY.
3. QUESTION THE THOUGHTS YOUR BRAIN IS THINKING WITH LOVE & CURIOSITY YOU WHEN YOU ARE FEELING TENSION, FEAR OR INSECURITY…THESE ARE USUALLY ALL ASSOCIATED WITH SURVIVAL BRAIN THINKING. (THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH SURVIVAL BRAIN THINKING, WE NEED IT, BUT IT DOESN’T HELP US CHOOSE OR BE OUR BEST SELF.
WHAT IF YOU COULD GET TO THE POINT WHERE YOU REALIZE YOU HAVE THE CONTROL TO ENGAGE IN THE EMOTIONAL BRAIN DRAMA
