Why does weight-loss have to be “so dang hard hard”?!!

Why can’t it be “easier”?!?

IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE A CHALLENGE:

EXPECT IT, WELCOME IT, EMBRACE IT-WAIT…WHA??

YOU HEARD ME!

Have you ever asked yourself those questions?

In your struggle with food & loving your body, you’ve given up time and again, grabbed the brownies, the Moose Tracks etc. and were so annoyed that IT COULDN’T BE EASIER!!!

If this is you, you are among friends. You are among human friends because all human brains have “a hard time with change”.

In other words, changing habits “feels” hard because, well, it’s supposed to be.

I want you to think about lifting weights, (or doing anything new) even if you never have, lifting weights is not what I’d call a completely pleasurable, joyous, most-wonderful ever kind of an activity.

It’s not easy. It’s not supposed to be. It requires work. What’s happening when we lift weights is our muscle fibers are breaking down & then when we give them proper recovery time, they grow back stronger, bigger & more defined.

Imagine your brain, literally with a pair of dumbbells-lifting them.

Your brain is a muscle, when we are building new neural pathways for new thoughts & habits, this is what happens-we are taking our brain to the gym.

It’s going to require some discomfort.

The challenge is that our brain also thinks discomfort = DANGER so it shies away from discomfort.

This is why we slip back into old habits & it’s a spiraling cycle.

The irony is that discomfort usually doesn’t mean DANGER & we will not die if we feel uncomfortable but our brain will argue, argue argue with this.

The key is when the discomfort arises when you are not feeling like putting on your tennis shoes, or planning your meals for the week, the discomfort means you are in the right direction.

It means you’re doing the right thing. It doesn’t mean danger.

I invite you to expect the discomfort & lovingly tell your brain, I know you are afraid of danger, but I’m going to put on my shoes and go for a walk any way or I’m going to plan my meals & do my food journal any way because it’s getting me where I really want to be.

I invite you to welcome the discomfort, expect it, don’t make it wrong…

Expecting the discomfort is ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL TOOLS…

When we don’t make discomfort wrong, we go towards it instead of cower from it…and then we create the changes we REALLY, REALLY WANT.

This is what I’m offering you.
