THE MODEL: PART ONE



Ok beautiful friends, strap on your seat belts. Here comes one of the most helpful tools I’ve ever run across in my life.

Up until this point, we’ve been focusing on accessing self-compassion, curiosity, asking compassionate questions etc. There’s a reason for this. We need to create a foundation of self-kindness in order to work in the most effective way with our brain.
When we don’t approach our thoughts, feelings & actions with self-love & self-compassion & we default to survival brain self-judging, it limits our access to our pre-frontal cortex thinking part of our brain. 

WE NEED COMPASSION TO WORK MOST EFFECTIVELY WITH OUR BRAIN. IT’S NOT JUST A TOUCHY-FEELY IDEA. It’s a brain tool.

So, now that we have some of that established, let’s talk about the unraveling of our THOUGHT SPAGHETTI – this is often times what it occurs as—intertwined thoughts all wrapped & we have no idea what is below or why!
One of my master coaches taught us a CRAZY IMPORTANT & AMAZINGLY EFFECTIVE tool through which we unravel all the thoughts we have been compassionately observing up until this point!

LET’S JUMP IN!

THIS TOOL IS CALLED “THE MODEL”.

The model is a simple process through which we observe & analyze our thoughts. It’s based on the great work of many thought leaders & was encapsulated by my master coach, Brooke Castillo.

The first step when analyzing any thought, that we have been compassionately observing, is to separate the facts from the thoughts.

The way I’m defining facts today is literally, “just the facts ma’am”. 

The basics, broken down really simply: what occurred & what could “be agreed upon by most people”. There was no subjective observation or interpretation-it’s the basics of what happened the end.

The way I’m defining thoughts today is what our brain makes the facts mean & what story we are subconsciously, semi-consciously or consciously telling ourselves about what the facts were.
It’s critical to separate the thoughts from the facts so we can start to see the patterns that our brain has been running from the “outdated software” or thoughts we picked up from our past about how to interact with and interpret the world.

It’s critical to separate thoughts from the facts so that we can ask ourselves:
Is this thought serving me to access the best version of myself?

Is this a thought I want to continue to allow this thought to run in the background of my brain software, or do I want to work on changing that?

It’s critical to separate thoughts from the facts so that we can give our pre-frontal cortex the opportunity to actually answer those 2 questions.
